Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Workbook Editor ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and online spreadsheet editor (the "Service").

Our core privacy principle is simple: your spreadsheet files are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to or stored on our servers.

1. Information We Collect

Email address. If you sign in or subscribe to Pro, we collect your email address to verify your identity with a one-time login code and to determine your subscription status.

Verification codes. One-time login codes are stored only until they expire (10 minutes) or are used, and failed-attempt counts are kept temporarily to prevent brute-force attacks.

Subscription information. When you pay through PayPal, we store your PayPal subscription ID, subscription status, and associated email so we can activate and maintain your Pro access. We never receive or store your credit card number, bank details, or PayPal password.

Local browser storage. Your preferences (language, theme), an authentication token, and an automatic recovery snapshot of your current spreadsheet are stored locally in your browser using localStorage and IndexedDB. These never leave your device.

Technical data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically record standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, for security and reliability purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To authenticate you and maintain your session;
  • To activate Pro features and track subscription status;
  • To send essential service emails, such as login codes;
  • To respond to your support requests;
  • To detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

3. How Your Files Are Handled

Opening, editing, converting, and exporting spreadsheet files all happen locally within your browser. Your files and their contents are not transmitted to, inspected by, or stored on our servers or any third party. Clearing your browser data removes the local recovery snapshot.

4. Service Providers

We rely on a limited number of processors to operate the Service, each acting under its own privacy and security commitments:

  • PayPal — payment processing and subscription billing;
  • Resend — delivery of transactional emails (login codes);
  • Neon — secure PostgreSQL database hosting for account and subscription records;
  • Vercel — website hosting and content delivery.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

5. Data Retention

Login codes expire within 10 minutes. We retain your email and subscription records for as long as your account or subscription is active and as needed to comply with legal and accounting obligations. When you request deletion, we remove account and subscription records within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location (including under the GDPR in the EEA/UK and the CCPA in California), you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate information;
  • Request deletion of your information;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Request data portability;
  • Withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@workbookeditor.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use essential first-party storage for an authentication token and your language and theme preferences. Advertising and analytics services described below may set third-party cookies and web beacons in your browser.

Advertising. We may display advertisements served by third-party vendors, including Google (Google AdSense). When ads are shown:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and/or web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the Internet.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.
  • Where required (for example, for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), we request your consent for ad-related cookies through a consent management tool before personalized ads are served.

For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

8. Security

We protect account data in transit using HTTPS and use reputable infrastructure providers with strong security practices. Because your files never leave your browser, they remain protected by your own device security. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Material changes will be highlighted through the Service where appropriate.
